Planes, trains and automobiles

Social media is an amazing thing. Over the last couple of days, I’ve witnessed several of my friends make their long-haul trek to Las Vegas for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Many are hauling trailers loaded with some of the greatest animal athletes in the game, so it’s imperative that they make the long drive. Of course, it’s the nature of their business – oftentimes, they’ll travel hundreds of miles just to get from one event to another … in the same MORNING.

Nonetheless, they’re tougher than me. I don’t plan to leave until Tuesday, when my wife will take me to the Kansas City airport for the three-hour flight to Las Vegas. I’ll rent a car for two weeks to get me around town, and I’ll even spend a little on cab fare along the way.

I just looked into the estimated round-trip cost of driving to Vegas, and the expense is eerily similar. The major difference? Forty-plus hours on the road and an extra two nights away from my girls. The long-haul drive just isn’t worth it to me.

I’m looking forward to my two-week stay in the Nevada desert. I’d love for 80-degree weather the entire time I’m there, but I know that’s asking a little much. I’m also hoping Enterprise Rental Car hooks me up.
